Phase 1: Creating your Future Self

Phase 1: Creating your Future Self

1. Define your Goals. Create long, medium and short term goals using your goal setting page. Let your mind run free and ask yourself “if it were impossible to fail, what would I achieve”.

The goal is to visualise what you want your future life to look like and get as specific and intentional as possible with each goal you set.

2. Select the Goals most Important to you. The next step of creating your future self is to select the four goals most important to you. Once selected, use the framework to describe your goal in detail. Ask yourself “what motivates me to achieve this goal”, and create your journey ahead.

Finally, and most importantly of all, decide from the very start how you will celebrate when you achieve the goal.

3. Your New Self. The final step of Phase 1 is to create your “New Self”. Here you will create your new identity, deciding what old self limiting beliefs you are going to delete and what behaviours and standards you are going to develop to create the person who will lead a life of fulfilment and achieve their greatest dreams.

Phase 2: Taking Daily Action

1. Each Week Identify your Biggest Wins from the week. This creates a sense of achievement and shows you how far you have come each week in your studies and your personal pursuits.

2. Stop, Start, Improve. Assess how well you perform last week and consciously think about what you can improve and start in the week ahead to get you back on track to reaching your goals.

  • How well did you do in moving the dial on your weekly goals?
  • Which new skills and behaviours worked and which didn’t.
  • Looking ahead what will you start doing and what things can you do to improve.

3. Rate your Week. Look back and rate your week. This helpful tool allows you to keep track of how you are improving from week to week and identify any weeks that were less productive than others. Revisiting your previous performance to understand what’s helping you to move towards the life of fulfilment and academic success.

4. Plan for the Week Ahead. Set your academic and personal tasks for the week ahead and reassign any incomplete tasks from the previous week.

5. Set the Focused Few. These are your goals for the week ahead. The three key achievements that are going to move you closer to your ultimate goals that were selected during Phase 1. Commit to making these goals happen creating smaller milestones for reaching your biggest achievements.

6. Growth Hack. This is the secret sauce of the planner that will help you increase performance and productivity as well as improve your mental wellbeing. All of which will allow you to thrive and succeed to your full potential.

Each week you will find a new #GrowthHack in your planner that is designed to challenge you to grow personally and create a positive set of habits and mindset that will significantly reduce overwhelm and create an academic life of success and fulfilment.

Phase 3: Review, Reflect & Achieve

1. Review & Reflect. At the start of the academic year, you will start with goals. However, as you begin growing as a student and discover your new self  from Phase 1, things may change and that is where taking your time to review and reflect is important.

The planner will continually support and guide you to reflect on how you are growing on a weekly basis.

Finally, between Semesters there is an opportunity to review your achievements so far and re-set ready for another period of significant growth and fulfilment.

2. Achieve. Using the Semester Student Framework, success and achievement await. The growth hacks will help you improve performance and productivity so that you can produce your best work.

In addition to this gratitude and mindfulness practices will help you to avoid overwhelm during your studies, ensuring your mental health remains a priority during your academic journey.
